How to ask better yes-or-no questions in Shelf Guess
Use the shape of the remaining shelf to decide whether to ask about a category, family, or brand.
Look at the remaining possibilities first
Shelf Guess starts with a real product hidden in a visible catalog. A feature question removes every product that disagrees with the answer. An exact product guess removes only that card when wrong. Before clicking, compare how many cards each possible question could help you eliminate.
Prefer a useful split
If half the remaining shelf consists of drinks, asking about drinks is useful whichever answer you receive. If only one card is a drink, the same question may help much less. You do not need to calculate exact probabilities. Look for a feature shared by a meaningful portion of the remaining possibilities.
Move from broad to precise
Category describes the broad aisle. Product group narrows the aisle. Product type describes what the item actually is. Brand describes who markets it. Start where the shelf has the most variety. Once everything remaining is food, another food question adds nothing; a family or brand question is likely to help more.
Brand is a tool, not always the first question
A brand can span many types of product, or it can appear on only one remaining card. Ask about it when the visible shelf makes the question useful. Colorful packaging may make one brand memorable, but familiarity alone does not make it a good opening question.
Know when to name the product
When only a few plausible cards remain, an exact guess becomes reasonable. Read the full name and variant so you do not pick a nearby flavor by mistake. There is no guess limit, so a wrong turn is a chance to improve the next question. Your completed result compares your guess count with other players that day.
